A girl trapped in a box. Sound familiar? We may not live in a world exactly like that depicted in The Handmaid’s Tale, but feeling like one is trapped in a box, only being allowed to come out and dance when someone else gives us permission to do so, is an all too familiar experience.
We love June. We love her quiet yet fierce stubbornness. Her refusal to fully bend to the status quo and accept this box that she’s been placed in. Her determination in resisting that which has been forced upon her.
And, more than anything, we love that she firmly declares that she sill not be that girl in the box.
