If you don’t already know who J.K. Rowling is, well, it’s safe to say that you’ve probably been living in a cave deep in an abandoned forest somewhere for the last decade or more.

As many know, Rowling was a single mother living on welfare when she determined to finish writing the story of a magical boy that she had dreamed up years before. She says it was her “back-against-the-wall time” and she was trying to make some money just to pay off her bills.

While most won’t see the level of success that followed her own rock bottom, we love that she has been so transparent about her very real struggles at that time in her life. It is often only when we hit rock bottom and come to our own “back-against-the-wall time” that we find the strength to step out in faith into an adventure of our own making.
