Do you promise not to tell? Whoa, oh, oh…
Closer, let me whisper in your ear. ♫ ♪ ♫
Stephanie and I are huge Beatles fans. That’s not something that’s really a secret, but we will say that the Fab Four tapped into an intrinsic part of human nature with these lyrics. People love secret, and we’ve got one we’re about to reveal to you!
Listen, do you want to hear a secret?
Umm…YES! Now, we’re not one to advocate gossiping, but there is something delicious to being entrusted with a secret. It’s kind of an honor, actually, when someone comes to you and trusts you enough with information that they aren’t willingly sharing with the rest of the world.
Do you promise not to tell?
This is really the heart of secrets, right? A secret is a secret because we don’t want everyone else to know. Maybe it’s something embarrassing or something that causes us shame or just something that we’re afraid others wouldn’t understand and we’d be judged unfairly because of. Whatever the reason, we all know what it’s like to harbor a secret within us and feel like we have no one we trust to share it with.
Let me whisper in your ear.
But the thing about secrets is that, often, when we hold them in, they can eat us alive. There’s often an urge to tell someone…anyone so long as your secret is safe, right? I mean, have you ever finally broken down and shared a deep, dark secret with someone and then experienced the release of weight from your soul? It’s almost like you’ve been drowning and you finally break the surface and can gasp air again.
The Big Reveal
There’s a reason they say confession is good for the soul. Because it is! We long to tell our stories. Research actually shows that, when a person experiences the unburdening of a secret, it can actually boost their self image and worth and help them to tap into living a more authentic life. And, since we’re all about living authentically around here, we thought it was about time we created a way for people to tell their stories.
But telling your story can be scary and anxiety inducing, right? Sometimes we’re not quite ready to tell the world, but we’d love to tell someone. Well, we’ve got that covered, too.
Recently, we created an online “confessional”, and we’re excited to share it with you now! It’s right there on the right side of every page on our website, and it’s just waiting to hear from you. And the best part? It’s 100% anonymous. Honestly! There is absolutely no demographic information or identifying information that is collected when you post a confession, so your secret remains yours.
Give it a try! We think you’ll find that it feels good to get some things off your chest. When you’re done, click the Confessions link in the site menu to see a listing of the confessions others have posted, too. You might just find that you’re not alone in what you have to confess!
